Some companies already have business interests with Sri Lanka while the others are exploring the possibility of setting up operations here. The delegation comprised American companies based in India. These companies included Unocal Bharat, AMCHAM India, A.T. Kearney Ltd, Avery Dennison India P Ltd, Bangalore Fluid System Components, Caterpillar, Cisco Systems, Converge India Services, Corning S.A., Engelhard Asia Pacific India Pvt Ltd, GE Betz India Pvt Ltd, Intel Asia, Invensys Powerware Pvt Ltd, Johnson and Johnson Ltd, Loral Skynet, McCann Erickson India, Swagelok Company and Tupperware India P Ltd. "We see tremendous opportunities in Sri Lanka due to the peaceful situation prevailing in the country," said a spokesman for the delegation. Sri Lanka is already the most open economy in South Asia and the US companies are hopeful that the Government will fast-track economic reform programs. The country also has the potential to be a hub for US trade with South Asia since it has a Free Trade Agreement with India and another close to being finalised with Pakistan. |
