Lee hat-trick puts Kenya in their place DURBAN, March 15 (Reuters) - Brett Lee claimed Australia's first World Cup hat-trick in a two-over burst without conceding a run as Kenya closed on 174 for eight in their Super Six day-night match on Saturday. Kennedy Otieno played on after receiving a painful blow on e elbow before Lee removed Brijal Patel and David Obuya, Otieno's brother, for golden ducks to make the score three for three. Ravindu Shah (46), however, played some classical cricket ots as he put on 79 with Steve Tikolo, the Kenyan captain top-scoring with a half-century in a gritty if out-classed performance. Both sides have already qualified for the semi-finals, with Australia due to play Sri Lanka and Kenya to take on India. Lee's was the fourth hat-trick in World Cup history and the second of the 2003 tournament. He ended with three for 14 from eight overs. It was also the 17th hat-trick in one-day international story and the third by an Australian, after Bruce Reid (v New Zealand, 1986) and Anthony Stuart (v Pakistan, 1997). |
