The Prince of Avurudhu:In what appeared to be a quaint reminder that Sri Lanka did indeed have a fitting and majestic counterpart to Santa in their Avurudu Kumaraya the Prince of New Year tidings arrived in an intricately decorated horse drawn carriage last week, to distribute gifts to the young an old alike. Nevermind the fact that the Kumaraya was 10-year-old student, participating in his school’s Avurudu celebrations. But the message was clear. Traditions are traditions. And the Avurudu Kumaraya had arrived.

As the United States of America iron out the final details for tomorrow's Sri Lankan donor confab in Washington, an International organisation engaged in the fight against corruption has urged that transparency and accountability measures be built into the aid process.
