Institute to promote management competency The International Institute of Management (IIM) Sri Lanka Branch was officially inaugurated recently by Karu Jayasuriya, Minister of Power and Energy and M. H. Mohamed, Minister of Urban Development, Western Region. Prof. Dr. Maurice G. T. Teo Chairman IIM conferred the Charter of the Institute to the local governing council. IIM with its headquarters in Hong Kong strives to promote management competency and continuous professional development. The Sri Lanka Branch hopes to develop membership links with international business partners to benefit the country and promote business activities. Premalal D. Perera, Chairman IIM Sri Lanka said that, as the first step, IIM Sri Lanka intends to promote small and medium business opportunities with Hong Kong and other member countries. It will conduct management training jointly with the Aquinas College of Business Management and training to technical personnel in the television field jointly with Teleview Technology Academy. It also intends to carry out an industrial safety campaign to promote safety awareness, among the industrial and construction workers and management in collaboration with relevant government authorities and the private sector. Such a campaign has already commenced among building trade organizations, it was said. |
