Enter the dragon at Taj Samudra The Golden Dragon the Chinese speciality restaurant at Taj Samudra has a new chef, Peter Zu, very relaxed and always willing to hear your comments on his dishes. He specializes in Szechwan and Cantonese style cooking and has a zest for cooking very healthy meals, something to take note of. He is very artistic and has a notable flair for working with sea-food. One note more - Try the Peking duck; he makes this with a passion. He brings with him many years of experience of working in hotels like The Radisson in Bejing, Four Seasons in Cyprus, Sheraton - Dubai and many more. There is also a surprise waiting for guests and the Taj is having a special chef flown in just to make some very divine dim sum, Public Relations Manager, Ms Prithi d'Almeida said. From waiter to General Manager Beginning his hotel career as a waiter, and rising to the post of General manager of star hotel, is a unique achievement to Neil Brohier. After finishing his studies at St. Mary's, Negombo, Neil joined the Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo as a waiter. In 1975, Neil enroled at the Goethe Institut Schwaebsichhall, to study the German language in preparation for Steigenberger Hotel School in Badreichenhall where he completed a 3-year diploma in Hotel Management. On his return to Sri Lanka, Neil rejoined Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo as a Hotel Management Trainee. Having thoroughly cut his teeth in the working of all departments, Neil was promoted as Banquet/Room Service Manager. In 1982, he set his sights on a catering company named BFI Saudi Arabia where he managed an entire kitchen catering to 3500 employees from varied parts of the world. On his return to Sri Lanka, he joined Serendib Hotel Group as its Food and Beverage Manager. After a short stint at Serendib, he reached the zenith in his hotel career when he was appointed Manager of Sigiriya Hotel. After serving Sigiriya for five years, he left for South Male to join Fihalhohi Tourist Resort as General Manager. He came back to Sri Lanka and joined LTI Sinbad as Resident Manager. Neil is now the General Manager, Club Bentota, the first purpose build club hotel in Sri Lanka with 150 rooms set on 80,000 square metres of prime seaside. It has a one kilometre long stretch of beach on one side and the picturesque Bentota river on the other. |
