Next week the long awaited 'Sooriya Show' will go on the boards at the BMICH on Sunday May 4 at 6.30 pm. This one time glamorous and prestigious radio show was a much sought after a stage show in Colombo as well as in the outstations. The stars on the Sooriya records label owned by Gerald Wickremasooriya, who actively promoted the singers in the early years, were leading lights then on the music scene. They were the late Clarence Wijewardena, Indrani Perera, Anil Bhareti, Paul Fernando, A.E. Manoharan, the Dharmaratne Brothers, La Bambas, Noeline Honter and Dalreen. A further augmentation of leading Sooriya lights will include the Mendis Foursome, Victor Silva and Winslow Six. Rajiv Sebastian will also be featured in fact his band Rajiv and the Clan will be the backing band for all the singers. The late C.T. Fernando, M.S. Fernando and Milton Mallawarachchi will be represented by their popular sons Priyantha Fernando and Susil Fernando, and by Ranil Mallawarachchi. The Sooriya Show will be staged in a contemporary setting by D & R Entertainments with exciting choreography and extremely creative lighting that will be a new experience for the audience. D & R Entertainments have spared no pains to make this a fitting tribute to Gerald Wickremasooriya who pioneered both the Sooriya label and the Sooriya Show. |
