CR thrash Old Zahirians 91/8 by LAL GUNESEKERA It was yet another massacre of the innocents. CR & FC trounced Old Zahirians by 91 points (8 goals, 7 tries) to 8 (1 try, 1 drop goal) after leading 50-5 at half time in their first-round Caltex League Rugby Championship game at Longden Place yesterday. The 'Red shirts' won 86-6 over Kandy Youth last week, and yesterday repeated their outstanding form through their mobile pack and fast outsides by running in 15 tries - eight in the first session and seven in the second. Left winger Nishantha Kumara opened the flood gates for CR's scoring spree, followed by Jayasinghe, right winger Mushtaq, fly-half Charith Kodagoda, centre Harin Kaluaratchi on two occasions, full-back Asanga Rodrigo and Chinthaka Abeykoon. After the turn around, more tries followed by Dinesh, Jayasingh, Sandun, Kaluaratchi, Walpola and Asanga Rodrigo, who had an outstanding game, on two occasions. Kodagoda converted two tries and Rodrigo six. Old Zahirians who had lost to Police 0-88 and Army 0-145, did well to cross CR's line yesterday through their No. 8 Mohamed in the first session with the drop goal by full-back in the second. They have now conceded 324 points in just three games. Priyantha Gunaratne refereed. Today, Army take on Air Force at Galle Face, while Kandy Sports Club meet Kandy Youth at Nittawela. |
