Kandy Youths protest about foreigners playing against them by KANDY SPORTS CORR. Kandy Youths Sports Club which is playing in the current Caltex League 'A' Division Rugby tournament has protested to the Secretary, Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union regarding the inclusion of foreign players by top rugby playing clubs against a fledgling club like theirs. The Rugby Committee Chairman of Kandy Youths SC Al Haj Mohammed Zarook in a letter dated 12th May, 2003, to the Secretary, SLRFU has made a vehement protest that despite their request for clubs not to include foreign players in matches against them, this had been completely overlooked and has resulted in seven of their players being on the injury list. In support of their request the Kandy Youths have explained that their club cannot afford the luxury of foreign players due to financial constrains. They have further explained that this is the first time they are participating in a tournament pitted against foreign professional players since they took to big time rugby in the year 2001. Kandy Youths is an inexperienced side and the average age of the side is 22. In spite of their request, foreign players were included in their matches against Kandy SC and the Sri Lanka Army which resulted in seven of their players sustaining injuries which will take some time to recover. They are finding it extremely difficult to find replacement for the injured players. |
