Dunstan star singer at Sirasa Karaoke c'ships Veteran sports photographer and the Pictures Editor of Sunday Times Dunstan Wickremaratne came first in the "Be a Star", Sirasa Karaoke championships organised by the Sunday Times Sports Media in collaboration with other newspapers. Participants were Rangi Akbar Sunday Times and Daily Mirror, Dunstan Wickremaratne Sunday Times, A. B. Francis and Dushantha Fernando from Daily Mirror, Ranjan Anandappa Sunday Observer, Mangala Sanjeewa Sunday Leader and a guest. The programme was conducted by Shanika Wanigasekera and the winning entry Englebert's Blue Spanish Eyes, sung by Dunstan was adjudged by the well-known vocalist Kithsiri Jayasekara. Dunstan who went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in France last September had the opportunity to sing a hymn composed by him in honour of Our Lady of Lourdes at the tourist mass said by Rev. Fr. Glen Fernando of Sri Lanka and Rev. Fr. D. Mackmorrow of Ireland at the main chapel of the Basilica. Music arrangements were by Denzil Lazarus, music director in London. At present, Dunstan is the choirmaster at St. Anthony's Church, Kollupitiya. |
