Junior and Senior schools athletic meets on separate days Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association together with the Ministry of Education Sports Division will conduct the Junior and Senior Athletic Championships this month and in August respectively. The Junior Athletic Championships will be held on May 30,31 and June I at the Bogambara grounds Kandy. The young athletes will run in four age groups, both boys and girls - under-12, under-13, under-14 and under-15. The athletes will participate in II individual events and one relay-80 metres, 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres 80 metres hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt, discus throw, javelin throw and 4 x 100 metres relay. The Senior Athletic Championships for John Tarbet Challenge Cup will take place at the Sugathadasa Stadium from August 29 to 31. The boys and girls under-16, under-18 and under-20 are eligible to compete at the championships. The events to be worked off are: 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 3000 metres, 5000 metres, 100 metres hurdles, 110 metres hurdles, 400 metres hurdles, long jump, high jump, pole vault, triple jump, shot putt, discus throw, javelin throw, 200 metres steeple chase, 4 x 100 metres relay and 4 x 400 metre relay. The best athletes in both championships will be included in two separate training camps for participation in junior and senior international meets. Entries close on June 2 with Anil Weerasinghe, Secretary, Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association, Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa.
