CIMA Business Leader Award to Prof Furkhan Professor M.T.A. Furkhan won the first CIMA Business Leader Award presented by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Sri Lanka, at the CIMA Annual Sessions. Furkhan is Chairman of the Confifi Group and the award was made in recognition of his achievements in a host of fields such as tourism, trade and finance. His involvement with the Confifi Group has grown in strength from the 1970s. Prof Furkhan was also one of the pioneers in forming the Association of Cost and Works Accountants of Ceylon in 1967, which eventually was elevated to a division of CIMA, UK. He is the only CIMA member who has served as its President on two occasions - in 1972/73 and 1982/83. The Business Leader Award is part of CIMA's new initiative to recognise the achievements and contribution of its members to business in Sri Lanka. The award will be an annual event, made to business leaders who have generated significant contributions to their professions and the economy of Sri Lanka. The awards will be based on two stages: the first requires the filling out of an application by a CIMA member followed by each answer he or she gives being graded. The next stage is the judging of the highest graded contestants by a panel of judges selected for their fairness and industry standing. |
