Henry Rajakaruna Talent meets technique
Henry Rajakaruna, one of Sri Lanka's foremost nature photographers, will hold his 6th solo photographic exhibition, named "Beyond Reality", at Lionel Wendt Memorial Art Gallery on June 21 and 22. In producing high quality photographs Henry lays the emphasis on subjectivity rather than on objectivity. This resulted in his striking pictures: in beauty that goes beyond the reality. All his previous exhibitions were about the reality of the nature, the manoeuvres his camera has performed upon nature, they are "Moments", "The creation", "Second nature". Over the years he developed into an artistic photographer and a master of out-of-focus techniques.
At his upcoming exhibition, each photograph is captioned according to the different motions and techniques. His pictures speak to you. A careless gesture. A certain look of nonchalance. Some photographs are drastic closeups of nature, "You can see it but cannot capture it, it deliberates, and only the camera catches it." - Davina |
