26 killed when bus overturned into a river in southern China

BEIJING, June 7 (AFP) - Twenty-six people were killed, and 12 others injured when an overloaded bus overturned into a river in southern China's Guangdong province, state media said Saturday.

The bus, which was only supposed to carry a maximum of 30 people, had 40 on board when it skidded off a road and plunged into the waters of the Dongjiang river Friday, the Guangzhou Daily said.

Two people escaped uninjured.

Investigators found the driver had been speeding, the report said.
