Garmentech gives another boost to Indo-Lanka ties by Pelham Juriansz Zakir Ahamed, Managing Director of ZAK Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, said Indians and particularly his company should have come to Sri Lanka earlier as the climate here is very good for trade. He said this at 'Garmentech, Sri Lanka 2003', the international apparel technology, fabrics and accessories trade show held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre. "There is a better clientele in Sri Lanka because Sri Lankans spend more money. We have successfully conducted exhibitions in India and Bangladesh. Our regular participants wanted us to take this show to Sri Lanka as well," Ahamed said. The event was organised by Chennai-based ZAK Trade Fairs and Exhibitions, one of India's largest organisers. The three-day fair, following closely on the heels of the 'Made in India' show at the BMICH, has strengthened trade links between India and Sri Lanka, and further consolidated the relationship between the two neighbours. ZAK Garmentech exhibitions have been held earlier at production centres in India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. Its international debut was made in 2002 in Bangladesh. Some of the items on display were fabrics, sewing items, embroidery, accessories like zippers, buttons and thread, supporting services like software consultancy, plotter and pattern papers, dyes and chemicals, material handling equipment and testing equipment. Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Ravi Karunanayake, who inaugurated the show, said that all bureaucracy has been broken since the present government came into power in December 2001 and that there is much scope for bilateral trade in a 'win-win' situation for both countries. |
