Big plans for US-based Lankan company by ELMO LEONARD Calcey Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Colombo, the production arm of Calcey Technologies, San Francisco, California, USA, exported Internet software solutions worth $20,000, mostly for US-based companies, during four months of operations in Sri Lanka,. The word Calcey is derived from California and Ceylon and represents the relationship between the two. Calcey USA is the marketing arm of the local corporate. When Calcey was officially launched in Colombo last week, CEO, Mangala Karunaratne said that for the next 12 months, the local company had projections of developing Web and Internet solutions amounting to a further $150,000. Calcey is a California-based Sri Lankan Web and Internet solutions company, providing total interactive solutions to meet the needs of many businesses, Karunaratne explained. Calcey would provide its customers with Internet and Intranet solutions, which would enable them to increase revenue, reduce costs, and gain market share. Calcey's Silicon Valley high-tech industry design studio in San Francisco is utilised for designs and concepts while the Colombo base is used as the development centre for delivery of internationally accepted Web solutions. Karunaratne said the company's strategy did not entail being a vendor. "We strive to be a strategic partner for our customers. We have been successful in providing cost-effective, result-driven solutions to our clients," he said. Calcey, Sri Lanka has the investment involvement of Karunaratne and Sons Ltd, Colombo (K&S) with assets of Rs 50 million. K&S has won several awards in printing from the Sri Lanka Printers' Association. K&S Chairman, Mahinda Karunaratne said that he purchased a printing press 33 years ago without any knowledge of printing. His success stems from self-motivation, striving for quality work, honesty and meeting deadlines. Calcey's core team comprises handpicked professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world, experienced in enterprise Internet solutions; networking and telecommunications; high volume and rapid response systems; and successful business execution of various start-ups. Karunaratne explained that sometimes contracting for Internet marketing services is not as straight forward as choosing from a pre-set suite of marketing techniques and implementing a campaign. Often, companies have specialised goals for their businesses and industry. Or, they may not fully understand what marketing options are available to them. Calcey could develop a company's business presentation and produce it on a CD-ROM for distribution or for personal presentation at any remote location. "Our multimedia development team could create graphics, animation, video and film, sound and integrative kiosks using the latest technologies. Within your constructing section, you will find an array of services available to you and your company. We can transform your idea or message into an effective visual experience," he said. Calcey's portfolio includes IngrinLanka.com, Flexi Print (Pvt) Ltd, Hansasurf.com and RoyalCollege.lk of Sri Lanka and Entera Inc., Nineup.com, Atmosphere Networks, Ideative.us and Lankafood.com of USA (currently in production). |
