HP offers better choice for consumers

by Elmo Leonard

Sri Lanka is one of the key markets in the region for Hewlett-Packard (HP) products, Vice President, Personal Systems Group, South East Asia and Taiwan, Hewlett-Packard Far East Pte Ltd, T.V.T. Chari said.

Chari was in Sri Lanka for the unveiling of HP's new products and solutions that would "afford the consumer a better choice of features and value for business".

HP, a leading global provider of products, technologies, solutions and services to consumers and businesses, has offerings spanning IT infrastructure, personal computing and access devises, global services and imaging and printing. HP completed its acquisition of Compaq Computer Corporation in May 2002. The company had a turnover of $80 million worldwide, and by 2004, would have $3 billion in savings. According to Chari, HP spent a lot on Research and Development and listened to customers' opinions when designing, which enabled it to be ahead of competitors.

The event in Sri Lanka, themed 'Running the next mile with you', encapsulated the concept of a cohesive partnership between HP and its partners.

Chari, based in Singapore, was accompanied by HP's Country Sales Manager (Imaging and Printing), Bob Ang and Country Manager, Thomas Chiam.

HP's premium business partners are Bartleet Electronics Ltd, Business Solution Systems (Pvt) Ltd, DMS Electronics Ltd, Informatics (Pvt) Ltd, Ingram Micro South Asia Ltd, and Trident Corporation (Pvt) Ltd.

The new products introduced are the PSC1210 and OJ5110 from the All-in-One (AiO) range, LJ1150 and LJ1300 from the personal Mano Laser Jet range and the LJ2300 from the Workgroup Mono Laser Jet.

A product fair was also held, which showcased Colour Laser Jets, ScanJets and DeskJets. Chiam claimed that the AiO range suits small offices and homes as they are multi-functional, saves space and are easy to use.

It combines the functions of print, scan, copy and fax into one product and is becoming popular in the market. With HP offering the broadest AiO range, it has maintained its leadership in Asia Pacific with a 60 per cent market share, he said.

HP also introduced the HPLaserJet 1150, 1300 and 2300 printer series. The printers suit budget-conscious businesses that require quick, reliable monochrome output, Ang said. Compared to their predecessors and most other laser printers currently available in the market, they offer more features and better flexibility to adapt printing capabilities according to users' needs, the fair was told. A leader and award winner for the monochrome printer, HP boasts a 51 per cent share of the monochrome printing market, he said.

Ang said the entry-level printers gave customers greater confidence, as there is an extended warranty; two years for LJ1150 and three years for LJ1300.
