Unique vocal styles from Nilusha Back in her land of birth to delight music lovers with her unique vocal styles is singer/songwriter Nilusha Baeder and her group 'Matinee Idol'. They make their debut gigs in Sri Lanka at Clancy's during the weekends. Now domiciled in Melbourne, Nilusha has been performing professionally these past eight years at Melbourne's finest jazz and soul venues. Her versatile repertoire includes the best of soul jazz and Latin standards. She draws her influences from Roberta Flack, Randy Crawford, Jill Scott and with her band also performs music from the books of George Benson, Stevie Wonder and other leading soul names. A Bachelor of Fine Art from The Victorian College of the Arts, Nilusha won the prestigious Mabel Kent Singing Scholarship and is reading for a Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts. A dedicated musician Nilusha has released the single 'All My Loving' through Warner Bros with the R & B group 'Bella'. Her performances on Channel 10's - Good Morning Australia has been well acclaimed. Supporting Nilusha on keyboards is the accomplished Monique di Mattina - pianist/composer who recently returned from two years in New York City on a Fullbright Scholarship where she worked with Lou Reed, Bjork and Lew Soloff and completed her Masters on Wynton Kelly. She has her own jazz/soul trio, has recorded for ABC and has been recognised by ABC with three Festival awards. Bassist Stephane La Joie who is a familiar figure in the Melbourne music scene plays a wide range of funk, rock, blues and jazz-fusion. He supported Tom Jones when the international icon toured Australia and has made many appearances on Channel 10's Good Morning Australia and on 'Hey, Hey It's Saturday. Andrew Swann the drummer/vocalist has toured extensively throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and the USA, most recently performed in New York City with the Grammy Award winner Norah Jones and Jesse Harris. A regular drummer for Channel 10's 'Good Morning Australia', Channel 9's 'Footy Show' and more, Andrew Swann has sat in for recording credits with leading names like Thelma Houston, Michael Crawford, Bob Geldof, Paul Grabowsky, James Morrison and Belinda Carlisle. Andrew who has a Bachelor of Music from the Victorian College of the Arts is endorsed worldwide by Pearl drums and Zildjian cymbals.
