Sri Lanka - Hong Kong in October by Lal Gunasekera Sri Lanka's game with Hong Kong in the IRB-ARFU Quadrangular which was earlier scheduled to have been staged in Colombo on May 31 has now been re-scheduled for the month of October, but is to be worked off in Hong Kong. The Secretary of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Group Captain Nalin de Silva (retd) told the Sunday Observer that the date for this game will be decided upon by the SLRFU so as not to clash with the local tournaments. The game with Hong Kong was postponed due to the SARS scarc. In the earlier games of the Quadrangular, Sri Lanka lost to Arabian Gulf 27-48 and Japan 8-36, while Japan beat Arabian Gulf 79-5. He further said that Sri Lanka has made a bid to stage the Junior Asian (under-19) Championship in Colombo in December where 12 countries are scheduled to battle for honours. The ARFU will meet soon to consider the bids and make a final decision. The Public Wanderers from England who were to make a short tour of Sri Lanka in July has now informed the SLRFU that they have cancelled the tour due to 'financial reasons.' Group Captain De Silva further said that New Zealander George Simpkin who has been appointed as Technical Director will continue to overlook the coaching of the national side, until the SLRFU makes the appointment of a national coach. |
