President's son, daughter against PA-JVP alliance While the melodrama of the PA-JVP alliance continues, with no sign of the famed MoU being signed by the two parties, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's son Vimukthi is understood to be against any alliance with the party that allegedly killed his father. Sister Yasodara is understood to share her brother's views. The President is reported to have indicated her children's opposition to the alliance to several of her close associates. Meanwhile, last Thursday's meeting between the PA and the JVP also ended on an 'undecided' note, with PA spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama admitting that there were minor hitches to be worked out before both parties could reach a final agreement. He was, however, optimistic that these would be solved shortly, but said that relevant issues, including a common constitution, office-bearers and allocation of seats needed to be discussed. Both the PA and the JVP have agreed not to divulge the details of their talks. Gampaha District Parliamentarian Anura Bandaranaike and brother of the President expressed confidence of the MoU being signed soon and said that as soon as some technical details are cleared up, the MoU will be signed at a grand gathering.
