Jon Westborg holds extensive talks with LTTE by S. Selvakumar Government is giving the final touches to a provisional administrative structure to be submitted to the LTTE during the course of this week through Norwegian facilitation, well informed governmental sources said. Former Norwegian Ambassador Jon Westborg who arrived in the country last week met the LTTE in Kilinochchi and after extensive talks with the Tigers returned to Colombo on Wednesday. He then met with the government peace negotiators and discussed the LTTE concerns on the interim administration they are seeking as a condition to restart the peace negotiations. Government chief peace negotiator Professor G.L. Peiris last week announced that instead of an interim administration, a provisional administrative structure has been drafted and would be placed before the LTTE and hoped that it would fulfil the Tiger aspirations. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Chief Tryggve Tellefsen who was due to visit Kilinochchi on Friday has rescheduled his trip for Monday. He is expected to meet with LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilchelvan and head of their sea unit Soosai. This visit is expected to last a couple of days and the SLMM chief is expected to visit several areas in the Vanni including the Tigers naval base in Mullaitivu. During his talks with the LTTE the SLMM's ruling on the newly constructed Tiger camp in Kinniya and the activities of the sea tigers are expected to figure prominently. Despite the SLMM's ruling that the LTTE should dismantle the camp which is in Government controlled area the Tigers claim that it is in an area under their control. Commenting on the SLMM's ruling and the Tigers stand on the Kinniya camp Sri Lanka Army sources said that the SLMM should be more firm on the LTTE, to make them abide by the ruling. |
