Sri Lanka prepare in earnest for rugby match against Hong Kong The Sri Lanka Rugby Union selectors picked an initial pool to practices in preparation for the Sri Lanka vs Hong Kong Group 'A' match in the Quadrangular tournament. A final pool of 32 players would be retained from this squad and the selectors will name the 32 players after two practice pool games. The 32 squad members will receive an allowance from the Union which the Council has approved. The final squad will then have a two weeks training camp in Kandy as preparation for the Hong Kong game. There are two schoolboys - both Royalists - Rajitha Jayasundera as 'Centre' and Laxman Disanayake 'wingthree-quater.' Sri Lanka meet Hong Kong for their last IRB/ARFU Quadrangular match in Nittawela on October 11 this year. Sri Lanka Manager - Rizly Ilyas will be in-charge and he will notify the pre-requisite level of fitness and subsequent fitness grading for the squad. Sri Lanka coach in-charge George Simpkin is looking to establish Sri Lanka's new look National Squad as the example for future players by conforming their competitive reputation in Asia. As Sri Lanka implement their new look format, the Union is firmly committed in raising the standard of Domestic and National Rugby which would give the country a launching pad by the 2006 ASIAD in Sri Lanka. |
