LTTE discusses 'IA' with eastern leaders by Ananth Palakidnar LTTE political wing leader S.P.Thamilselvan who arrived in the eastern capital Trincomalee on Friday after his tour in Batticaloa is said to be on a fact-finding mission to check the practicality of an LTTE Interim Administration. The political wing leader avoided visiting the disputed camp site, ruled by SLMM as a violation of the ceasefire agreement. According to informed sources Thamilselvan, who is on a week -long tour of the Eastern province was accompanied by LTTE special commander Colonel Karuna Amman. They had met both political and the military wing members in both Batticaloa and Trincomalee. This is the first visit by Thamilselvan to the east and his prime intention was to explain the Interim Administration issue and the Government's recent proposals to the LTTE cadres in Batticaloa and Trincomalee. He also met senior Government officials, departmental heads and media personnel in the east.Thamilselvan arrived in Trincomalee on board an Air Force helicopter on Friday evening. He was received by the organisation's Trincomalee leader Colonel Pathuman. Meanwhile, addressing a public gathering at a village controlled by the LTTE in Batticaloa Thamilselvan said that the Government's proposals on the Interim Council were being studied simultaneously by the LTTE hierarchy, in Vanni and abroad and that the response would be submitted to the Government later this month, sources said. Stringent security measures were put up by LTTE in the areas covered by Thamilselvan in the east and heavily armed carders were closely following him wherever he travelled, sources said. Thamilselvan is returning to Vanni today. 'Not gearing for war' - Thamilselvan Thamilselvan speaking at a meeting held in Sampur, Trincomalee on Friday said that the LTTE's stance on the Wan-Ela camp issue would remain the same and there was no question of withdrawing it from where it was put up. "This does not mean we are gearing up for war again or deviating ourselves from the peace process. Our leader Veluppilai Prabhakaran is determined to find a political settlement to the North-East crisis and we are now dedicated ourselves very much towards the peace process. Whenever we establish an administration for ourselves in the North and the east we will utilise the financial assistance what we obtain for the betterment of our people who suffered during the war in the north and the East", Thamilselvan said. |
