Sathosa ready for next phase of progress The image of Sathosa, which has 157 outlets islandwide, has been uplifted to be on par with any private supermarket. The organisation is now ready to embark on the second phase of repositioning itself to meet future challenges. With the Sathosa management still making all efforts to turn around the 60-year old government institution so it meets the demands of the millennium, the groundwork is successfully completed and the foundation laid to reposition, strengthen and rebuild the Sathosa image further. Concerted marketing and advertising strategies have helped tremendously in building up this image and making the public aware of the progress and the image-building exercise. With the first phase of putting things back on track now completed, the second phase of repositioning Sathosa is due to take off. This phase is centred around customer service, marketing and sales and an unprecedented inducement of funds will be required and strategies in keeping with the growing competitive sales and marketing demands of the retail service will have to be put in place. Considering the financial and budgetary constrains, Sathosa has to seek expertise management advice and marketing know-how, if the existing staff is to be retained while increasing the service to the public to save the organisation from collapse and to put it on a strong footing. Arrangements have already been fine-tuned in this regard and within the next couple of weeks, the revitalised Sathosa will emerge steadfastly. Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minster Ravi Karunanayake is personally planning and directing the revitalisation. The Minister recently travelled to Eastern Batticaloa to open a Sathosa outlet and on his way back, opened another outlet in Kandy. |
