Hantane Bungalow : the guest house in the misty mountains by BEVERLEY JANSZ The picturesque stillness of the 'Knuckles Range' surrounds the Hantane Bungalow, in the misty mountains of Hantane, Kandy. It gives you much more than this. The Hantane Bungalow is a guest house located 2800 ft. above sea level in the famous Kandyan hill amidst the serenity of the breathtaking landscape of the Hantane Estate. It had originally been an estate bungalow owned by British planters.
It remained comparatively unknown until Rajeeva Wijesekera a leading planter took over the Bungalow on lease a couple of years back. The four-roomed bungalow has since been renovated preserving its old style architecture and has since been in operation for over a year as a Tourist Board approved guest house. Taking a right turn from the clock tower junction, Kandy and passing the historic Bogambara prison along Ehalepola Kumarihamy Mawatha upto Kaikattuwa junction and then straight through the Hantane road, the access to this unique bungalow type guest house is about a 30 minute drive from Kandy. The climate is cool and the atmosphere calm and remains quite undisturbed by the occasional rustling of trees and the sounds of singing birds offering a panoramic view of the Telecom and radio towers of the mountains, the 'Knuckles Range', Hunas range and Matale Hills are 'out of this world'. Hantane Bungalow has a five acre garden, a portion of Hantane estate filled with flower beds, and lush vegetables. A warm welcome from the Manager, Sumith Perera who has considerable experience in the hotel industry, here and overseas, greets guests in a typical Sri lankan 'Ayubowan' style. He has five others to assist him in keeping the Hantane bungalow a place of traditional hospitality. A choice of Western, Chinese or Sri Lankan cuisine is ready within minutes to stir the taste buds of guests. Hantane Bungalow is an ideal location for many things. For honeymooning couples to families holidaying, studies, painting, writing, and above all, meditation in the privacy of complete tranquillity. The bungalow has double, triple and family rooms with attached bathrooms, all spacious and well furnished. According to Rajeewa Wijesekera, Hantane Bungalow is a fine location for hill climbers, explorers and botanists. It is ideal for a quiet retreat away from the noise and heat of the town. ###### Pulse of True harmony at Ayurveda Pavilions A re-juvenating two day work shop, "Pulse of True Harmony", for higher achievement including ayurveda treatment, Yoga and music therapy was held at Ayurveda Pavilions Negombo, a Jetwing Health Resort, recently.
