'One voice' for NE Muslim MPs by P. Krishnaswamy The North-East Muslim MPs Forum seeking a uniform formula for the North-East Muslims under the proposed interim administration, have decided to act as 'one voice' under the leadership of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader, Minister Rauff Hakeem, political sources said. The three parties, SLMC, National Unity Alliance (NUA) and Ashraff Congress (AC) - which are constituents of the North-East Muslim MPs Forum unanimously decided at a meeting held on Thursday night at the Hotel Renuka, Colombo, to demand the same powers to the Muslims as the Tamil representatives under the proposed unified interim administration for the two provinces, after a clear identification of the Muslim areas. Secretary General of the Forum M.L.A.M. Hisbullah MP told the Sunday Observer that at the meeting attended by 12 MPs of the SLMC, NUA, AC and 16 members of the SLMC high command, which included constitutional experts, the decision was taken after five-hour deliberations on ensuring the rights, security and political aspirations of the Muslims, |
