Thamilselvan to rendezvous with Bala in Paris LTTE political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan will leave for Paris this week to discuss the Government proposals for an Interim Administration for the North and East with chief negotiator Anton Balasingham and several other legal and constitutional experts. Chief of the LTTE's Peace Secretariat S. Pulithevan was in Colombo last week to make the necessary arrangements for Thamilselvan to travel to Paris, and both will leave shortly for the French capital sources said. Earlier it was planned to hold the discussions in Berlin, but later considering the health condition of Dr. Anton Balasingham, the venue had to be shifted to Paris, sources said. Dr. Balasingham, Dr. Viswanathan Rudrakumar and Dr. Joy Maheswaran will be present at the discussions, along with British and Swiss legal and constitutional experts. Thamilselvan is expected to submit the views and the suggestions of the LTTE hierarchy in Vanni for discussions. It is for the first time, a discussion of this nature by the LTTE is taking place in a foreign country. A comparative analysis based on the devolution of powers in various countries will also be discussed during the week-long meeting beginning August 15, sources said. The LTTE's response to the Government proposals is likely to be submitted later this month or in early September, sources said. Meanwhile, Thamilselvan who was on a tour to Batticaloa and Trincomalee reported back to his supremo Veluppilai Prabhakaran last week on the findings. AP |
