Wan Ela issue in SLMM's court by S.Selvakumar The Wan Ela camp issue now rests entirely with the Norwegian facilitators of the peace negotiations after the LTTE officially informed the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission that it will not dismantle the camp in Kinniya since it claimed that it was in an area controlled by the Tigers. SLMM acting chief Hagrup Haukland told the Sunday Observer that they met LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilchelvan on Thursday in Kilinochchi where Tigers revealed their stand. "We intimated to the government their stand and also we have written to the Norwegian Ambassador requesting that the facilitators could now intervene", Haukland said. To resolve this thorny issue the Norwegian government is likely to despatch one of their top rung trouble shotters Erik Solheim to Sri Lanka. He will hold talks with the SLMM representatives in Colombo and will proceed to Kilinochchi to meet LTTE hierarchy where he hopes to hold intense discussions. The talks will be focussed on the Wan Ela matter. Solheim will also hold talks with government leaders on the same issue. |
