Dreams of being a formula
one driver

A week ago Elvis fans of all ages gathered in Memphis, Tennessee to commemorate the magic, music and memories of Presley.

Here in Sri Lanka, singer Fahmy Nazick is partly associated with the music of Elvis but sings more the ballads of Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck. Fahmy's music career was launched when he just turned 20 years and he joined 'Clockwork Orange' with drummer Bubu, bassist Tilak and guitarist Jayantha playing at concerts and weddings.

Later he moved to the Emeralds with Sothy Raj, then to Gaylord Revival at the Supper Club, Oberoi. He had a gig with Cats Eye before he flew over to perform in Oman and the Middle East countries. Now as a solo balladeer he still enjoys rock'n roll.

Name: Fahmy Nazick
Birthday: October 4
Status: Married
Fav colour: Blue

Trendy outfits: Yes I do like them. But then again I will wear trendy outfits only if it suits me.

Fav song of the 80s and 90s: From the 80s its Tom Jones version 'Till' and from the 90s the song that Shirley Bassey made into a hit 'Never Never Never' but my favourite version of that song is the one by Pavorotti and Celine Dion.

Fav music: I cannot categorise. I enjoy a wide spectrum of music from Louis Armstrong to Deep Purple.

Then why do you specially sing Elvis Presley songs: I fell into that category.

How much of a party guy are you: When I was much younger I was kinda crazy party guy, but not now.

Are you superstitious: No. I don't let superstitions affect my life. What's your pet hate: False pretences by people. I respect people who are open and honest.

What makes you happy in life: Music undoubtedly. I wish I had studied music. Even when I was young it was music for me. At school, Isipathana College, Dylan Lye the guitarist and I we used to get together and sing for all the school functions.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: Rude thoughts do cross my mind, but I put them aside. There's no point in losing my temper.

When you are not singing what keeps you awake at night: I watch movies. I go out only if there is a special concert or some special happening.

Where would you like to be most now: I would like to be living abroad, going for all the many concerts and stage shows and enjoying my favourite music. What other profession would you like to be in: A rocket scientist. Don't ask me why, but it has a fascination for me.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I'd ensure that there is peace in the world. Everything will fall into place after that.

If you could change anything about yourself what would it be: My temper. I'd like to be a cooler person.

Do you like to live dangerously: When I was a teenager I had dreams of becoming a racing car driver, a Formula One driver like Schumacher. I have three car crashes to my credit - including dislocated shoulders and broken ribs!

Which product would you like to most endorse: Without a doubt a Porsche car. Are you a dreamer by nature: Yes. It's good to dream. To figure out what you would like to do.

What do you think life would be like in the year 3000: It will be a high tech life. Comfortable and lazy for some and not so comfortable for others.

Fav cartoon character: I have three favourites. Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny and Popeye the Sailor.

If Elvis were still alive what would he be doing: Right now he wouldn't be doing anything. He wouldn't be recording or doing shows, because of his overweight and his age. Perhaps if he was fitter he could have had a turn around and been popular again.
