The legendary Noel Ranasinghe and the 'La Ceylonians' will be featured in a special TV programme on Sunday August 31 on Sirasa TV at 8.30 am. The programme will celebrate 40 years of music by Noel Ranasinghe who was the pioneer of the Sri Lankan Calypso music and very rightly wears the crown of King of Sri Lankan Calypso. His debut in this field which was a successful impact on the music scene was by way of a series of performances on concert stages and also by special programmes broadcast live on then Radio Ceylon. He had the courage and creativity to move away from the conventional lanes of Sinhala music to introduce the calypso rhythm, which today is being followed by many mushroom bands. The celebrated and time honoured songs of Noel Ranasinghe, Hoiya Hoiya, Kandy Perahera, Welcome to Sri Lanka, Ayubowan which are contained in his latest CD, along with twelve other songs proves his commitment in originality. Catch his performance on Sirasa next Sunday at 8.30 am. |
