Over 600 trade stalls at Yuga Dekma 2003

Yuga Dekma 2003, the mega industrial exhibition of the Ministry of Industries, was held from September 5-11 in Matara.

There were more than 600 stalls representing the government and private sectors. Minister of Industries Rohitha Bogollagama said the main objective of the exhibition was to take industrialisation to village level. This year's focus is to give the benefits of development to the people of the South, he said.

Bogollagama attended a series of seminars which addressed problems faced by industrialists. He solved many of these problems and encouraged industrialists to diversify into new areas of business.

Indian IT guru, Narayan Murthy, Chairman of Infosys participated in the exhibition as a special guest and declared open the new Nippolac paint factory, which would generate 400 employment opportunities in Matara.

The Minister emphasised that Yuga Dekma 2003 is an opportunity to celebrate the country's spirit of enterprise and herald the new era of economic development under the present government.
