Malaysian investments to increase by 100%

Malaysia's current investment volume in Sri Lanka of Rs 2.5 billion is projected to increase by 100 per cent by year's end, opined BOI officials, after a successful investment promotion seminar held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

"The response is unbelievable. We may reap the benefits of the forum very soon," said a senior Board Of Investment (BOI) official in Kuala Lumpur, in reference to the overwhelming response from the Malaysian business community especially from the software nerve centre, Penang.

"The arrival of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will no doubt strengthen relations between the two nations," said Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Malaysia, Rosy Senanayake. Diplomatic sources in tandem with BOI officials have effectively followed up on the Investment and Trade Seminar and have been approached by several potential Malaysian investors.

The seminar attracted 700 Malaysian investors and prompted Industrial Development, Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs Minister Prof G.L. Peiris to bill the event as the most successful he has ever addressed.
