Sri Lanka 'A' play five matches against Kenya in October

NAIROBI, Sept 13 (AFP) - Kenya will be going on their first ever major cricket tour, a three-month trip to the West Indies starting in January, the Kenya Cricket Association said on Saturday.

They will play a series of four-day and one-day internationals in preparation for the next World Cup, KCA secretary Sharad Ghai said.

"It's now confirmed and the trip will start on January 10 and last until the end of March," Ghai said.

This will help the East Africans prepare for the 2007 World Cup, which will be held in the Caribbean Islands.

Kenya became the first non-Test side to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup when they reached the last four in South Africa earlier this year.

Since then however, they have faced a lean period as feuding between the government and cricket officials stifled development.

Ghai said the team, under new coach Andy Moles, would launch its 2007 World Cup preparations by hosting Sri Lanka "A" in Nairobi next month.

The Sri Lankans will play five one-day matches on their stop-over from South Africa, with the first match set for October 17.
