by Anjana Gamage

The fifth Colombo International Book Fair at the new Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre at the BMICH will come to an end at 10.00 pm today. A record daily crowd of more than 30,000 are estimated to have attended the exhibition, during the past six days.

According to the President of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers' Association, Sarathchandra Wanniachchi, the organisers expect a crowd of 150,000 for the exhibition, which got under way on September 15.

" It was a big success and was attended by foreign and local publishers, authors and readers, book sellers and customers, intellectuals and students to congregate under one roof, he said.

This year's festival saw the launch of 400 books including the introductory launch of world famous Oxford and Longman series of books. The Phonics series- system of readers and Phonics Education system which is useful for English learning was also introduced by the Pelangi Company of Malaysia in collaboration with their local dealers Sadeepa Bookshop.
