Ranil urges SLFP to join Govt. to create new political culture Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe urged the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to join hands with his Government to create a new political culture to meet the socio-economic and political problems faced by the country. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Kukule Hydro Power Project (KHPP), the country's first ever hydro power production from the river water, on Friday. He said that the all major political parties have realised the importance of finding a political settlement to the ethnic conflict, which had devastated the country for more than two decades. He also added that with the creation of independent police, public service and judicial service commissions the era of political victimisation has come to an end and more development projects would be introduced in the near future to stabilise the country's economy. The Kukule Ganga Hydro Power Project, with the capacity to generate 70 Mega Watts with an average annual production of 317 Gega Watt Hours (GWh) has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 15 billion, with the Overseas Economic Co-operation Fund of Japan contributing Rs. 12.8 billion towards the total cost. |
