Sri Lanka will participate at Asian Junior Rowing C'ships by LESLIE FERNANDO The Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) will field a team for the Asian Junior Rowing Championships to be held in November this year in Hong Kong. According to a senior official of ARASL, this will be the first time Sri Lanka will be participating in the junior rowing championships. The ARASL has decided to form a pool of rowers who did well at the recently concluded Rowing Nationals. The selection will be purely on performances in the sculls, pairs and fours. The selection committee of ARASL will meet shortly to pick the best oarsmen from Colombo Rowing Club, S. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia, Royal College, St. Joseph's College, Sri Lanka Navy, University of Colombo, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka Army. The oarsmen will begin special training on the Beira Lake from the first week of October. The rowers will train in the mornings and evenings under a coach to be appointed by the ARASL. Royal-Thomian The annual Royal-Thomian Regatta will be held during the last week of October on the Beira Lake. This year's regatta is hosted by S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia. The events to be worked off are junior and senior sculls, senior, junior and intermediate pairs, junior, senior and intermediate fours. The Royal and S. Thomas' crews have begun training on the Beira Lake under their respective coaches in two sessions morning and evening. The 2002 Regatta was won by the Thomians. |
