One-day leadership seminar for school cricketers by S. M. JIFFREY ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr The National Development Centre (Coaching Unit) of Sri Lanka cricket in association with the Central Province Cricket Association and the Kandy District Cricket Association will conduct a one-day leadership seminar for school captains, vice captains, masters in charge and senior cricket coaches on Tuesday September 23rd at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy commencing at 9.30 am. The Secretary of the Central Province CA Janaka Pathirana said that around 100 participants will participate from the 36 cricket playing schools in the Central Region. This is a vision of Thilanga Sumathipala to educate young cricketers Manager - coaching of the BCCSL Malcolm Perera who has just returned to the island after a stint as the Junior National Coach of Bangladesh said that the objective behind this programme is to educate school captains of the senior cricket teams on leadership and matters arising from it. This will be of immense benefit to the young cricketers with the schools cricket season having just commenced and the third-term cricket fixtures are being played at present. Former Test player Ranjith Madurasinghe will be the guest speaker and also addressing the participants will be Malcolm Perera Hirosh Welagedera, Sunil Fernando and Peter Manual a senior umpire from the Board's umpires' panel who will brief the participants on the laws of cricket and matters arising from the laws and what is known as the unwritten laws of cricket. This will be the first of the series of programmes by the National Development Centre of the Sri Lanka cricket and similar programmes will also be conducted in other regions. This seminar will also lay emphasis on the code of conduct for players and on the importance of player - umpire co-ordination which will do away with unnecessary appealing by cricketers and make the game a pleasure to witness. This project is the brainchild of director NDC Duleep Mendis. |
