Heshan Unamboowe - a promising swimmer by UPANANDA JAYASUNDERA - Kandy Sports Special Corr. Eleven-year-old Heshan Unamboowe, a grade VI student of Trinity College has been performing well in swimming at recent meets. Having started swimming at the age of five years under coaches E. G. A. Wilson and E. K. Piyasiri, this Trinitian shows promise of better things to come in the future. Some of his performances at recent meets: Secured first place with a record time in 50 metres Back Stroke at the 22nd Tamil Nadu - Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Meet held in Chennai, India in July, 2003. Adjudged the Junior National-champion after securing first place in 50 and 100 metres Back Stroke, 200 metres Freestyle, Medley and 2nd place in 100 metres Butterfly Stroke at the 27th National Age Group swimming and Diving Meet held in July 2003. Secured the first place in 50 metres Freestyle, Back Stroke, Butterfly Stroke and 200 metres individual medley at the National Age Group Meet in 2002. . Became champion of under 10 age group at the 26th National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championship in which meet he secured the 1st place in 100 metres Free Style, 50 metres Butterfly Style, 50 metres Back Stroke and 200 metres Individual Medley in 2001. Became the Champion Swimmer in his age group at the 24th and 25th National age group swimming and diving championship 2000. |
