SLT expands global connectivity Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) signed an agreement with India's Barath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently to establish an Indo-Sri lanka microwave link between Talaimannar and Rameshwaram, to expand its connectivity to the global network. Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL, Prithipal Singh said BSNL is India's largest telecommunication company. "We have 40 million fixed lines and 35,000 telephone exchanges. This is a great step for both countries. We have invested Indian Rs 2.5 million on this," he added. SLT Chairman, Thilanga Sumathipala said BSNL is 50 times bigger than SLT. SLT had issued 840,000 fixed lines this year and hopes to pass the one million mark by the end of the year. He said SLT will further reduce international tariff rates in a bid to remain the best telecommunications provider in Sri Lanka. (CM) |
