Cathay Pacific celebrates decade of flights by Pelham Juriansz Cathay Pacific Airways, the flag carrier of Hong Kong, last week celebrated the 10th anniversary of its operations to Sri Lanka. The airline commenced Hong Kong - Colombo flights on October 1, 1993 with the maiden flight operated by a Lockheed Tristar aircraft. The route was upgraded to an Airbus in 1998. Having first commenced with two weekly flights between Hong Kong and Colombo via Bangkok, operations were increased to three flights a week in 1997. Cathay Pacific Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive, David Turnbull told a news conference held in Colombo to mark the occasion that Sri Lanka is a cheap, good and safe destination for tourists from Hong Kong, especially since the peace process is well underway. The airline has also introduced a stylish, thoughtfully designed interior for its Business Class. The seating allows passengers to stretch out in a full six foot three inch long flat bed or choose an 'Z' shaped configuration, which is ergonomically designed for maximum sleeping comfort. James Finlay and Company is the General Sales Agent for the airline in Sri Lanka. |
