Northwood University and American Business College sign Contract by Pelham Juriansz The University of Northwood, Michigan, USA and the American National College (ANC), Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last week to offer low cost degrees to Sri Lankan as well as foreign students. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree will be completed in two parts (two years in Colombo and the other two in the States). The American National College is a member of Ceylinco Consolidated and is the only fully accredited North American university college in Sri Lanka. The Chairman of the Ceylinco Group, Lalith Kotelawala stated that honesty and integrity is important in business and that is what is stressed in the course. There is a subject called "Business ethics". Hitherto the business students who wanted to obtain an American Degree had to pay a substantial amount to obtain one by travelling to the States and had to undergo the hassle of obtaining visas etc. Now this type of degree could be obtained at about 40% the cost of an American degree and this too one should consider the advantages of being able to study in one's own country. Most of the lecturers are American and therefore the culture is American at the College but the fact is that the lectures are being conducted in a Sri Lankan environment which is good for bilateral relations. Even President George .W. Bush has praised Northwood University in a message when he said that "Today, thousands of companies hire Northwood graduates and those employers will tell you that Northwood graduates contribute more than their management skills-they benefit the communities where they live". |
