Speaker calls for meeting with party leaders By S. Selvakumar Speaker Joseph Michael Perera has invited all party leaders represented in Parliament to meet him on Monday 10 a.m. in the Parliamentary complex to discuss the present impasse following the acquisition of three portfolios by the President and the prorogation of Parliament till November 19. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who returned to the island Friday presided over a UNF parliamentarians meeting held at the Parliamentary complex on Friday night. The Prime Minister also thanked members of the UNF friendly parties who expressed support to him. At this meeting it was decided to meet again on Tuesday while the UNP Working Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow. The Prime Minister was also scheduled to meet with the TNA, PLOTE and MP V. Puthirasigamany who defected to the government side from the Opposition. The meeting was scheduled for yesterday and today. TULF President V. Anandasangari in a letter to President Kumaratunga has urged both the President and the Prime Minister to forget all differences and join hands to solve the ethnic problem once and for all so that all can gettogether and make Sri Lanka a paradise on earth where all can live in peace and amity. "Both of you, being young and active also hailing from families well respected for their patriotism could easily forget your differences in the interest of the country, rise above petty party politics and find a lasting solution to the country's problems. |
