'CIMA quality partner' accreditation for ABS

Academy of Business Studies (ABS) has been conferred the 'CIMA Quality Partner' accreditation, by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) UK. It is only given to selected educational institutes after stringent tests and assessments and ABS is the first Institute in Sri Lanka to be honoured with this accreditation.

The CIMA Quality Partner Accreditation was officially handed over to Mr. Faris Ismail, the CEO of ABS, by Ms. Kathy Grimshaw, Director-International CIMA, U.K.

The 'Quality Partner accreditation conferred by CIMA, UK through their 'Learning Through Partnership' programme is in recognition of the quality standards maintained by ABS. By acquiring this coveted designation, ABS has brought recognition not only to the Institute but to Sri Lanka as well.

'Learning Through Partnership' (LTP) is the quality assurance scheme prepared by CIMA for colleges teaching their courses with the objective of improving the standards of CIMA courses. It takes into consideration issues such as teaching, learning, support course, monitoring and review, coverage of the syllabus, staff expertise and resources as well as involvement of the students in course development.

Such high standards are not uncommon at ABS. In fact, ABS has had a string of 'firsts' to its name.

It was the first institute in Sri Lanka to be accredited as a centre for Computer Based Assessment of CIMA in June 2002 and the first institute to be accredited as a tuition centre in Sri Lanka for the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK.

The quality initiatives instituted by ABS have resulted in record high pass rates, as high as 92% at the CIMA - CBA (foundation level) examinations.

Faris Ismail, CEO, ABS, has stated: "From the very outset, ABS sought to be the very best in providing quality professional tutoring to aspiring professionals. This we have done by way of our outstanding panel of lecturers and the facilities we offer. And now, gaining recognition from CIMA with this award, it has not only boosted the stature of ABS but also brought recognition to Sri Lanka".

Having started out in 1995 with only 3 lecturers and 40 students, today ABS has the country's highest student intake in terms of Professional Education of 12,000. Furthermore, it has a panel of 80 experienced lecturers and an administrative staff of 35.

Other than CIMA, ABS today offers courses for eight leading professional bodies.

The style at ABS is to nurture a student on an overall basis and develop not only their educational skills but also personal relationship building ability along with their individual talents through 'Dedicated Coaching with Care'. ABS also has a Career Guidance unit through which negotiations are carried out with employers to ensure whenever and wherever possible to assist students gain practical exposure.
