VRS for NDB office secretaries National Development Bank (NDB) has offered a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) to reduce the number of office secretaries recently. At the time of introducing the VRS scheme, the NDB had more than 50 office secretaries and most of them remained without holding a full time job due to a redundency in the cadre. The computerisation of the whole banking system resulted in these jobs becoming redundant, a company spokesman said. The main purpose of this VRS scheme is to reduce the excess number of office secretaries numbering 50 and the company had altogether a staff of nearly 350, said Assistant General Manager (Organisation Development) A.C.M Fernando. He said that "NDB had offered a golden handshake, which is not compulsory with all tax incentives". According to Fernando nearly 12 have obtained the VRS and many more are believed to follow in the near future. Fernando said that the procedure to follow suit of having an office secretary no longer existed due to the advanced internal communication systems. He said that the required number of secretaries for the entity was believed to be half of that. He said that due to the development of the technology use of secretory job have become redundant in many organisation with the coming up of new avenues. However,NDB has also taken an initiative to train such office secretaries for banking jobs to retain them in the same organisation. |
