MBSL rewards punctual lease re-payments The Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka has rewarded nine customers who were punctual in the payment of their lease rentals under the Bank's recently introduced 'Paymasters' Reward Scheme.' Under this scheme, three monthly winners are offered prizes of Rs. 20,000/-, Rs. 12,500/- and Rs. 10,000/- respectively. The nine customers who won cash prizes at the recent presentation were winners in the draws from June-August 2003. MD/CEO Sunil Wijesinha, said that as the pioneer Merchant Bank in Sri Lanka, the MBSL was proud to introduce this scheme and thereby encourage more customers to pay their rentals by the due date. "I'm also happy to say that nearly 80% of our customers pay back on time." He added that the bank was conscious of creating a win-win situation by serving the customers in a manner that would be equally rewarding and beneficial to the customers, as well as the bank.Senior Manager Leasing Lakshman Kaluarachchi said that the MBSL, which is one of the pioneers of leasing in Sri Lanka, gave its very first lease to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in 1983. The bank has since written over 15,000 leases. "Our largest concentration of leases is in the Western province with vehicle leases taking top billing," he added. Recoveries Manager Terrence Van Sanden said that the bank was regarded by clients as customer-friendly and attributed this to the comparatively 'soft' approach on the part of the bank when clients experience financial setbacks. One of the winners, Directress of the ESM Montessori in Wattala, Ruwanie Warnakulasuriya said that being a customer of the MBSL for nearly ten years, and, now on her third lease with the bank, she found this scheme 'a great incentive to encourage customers to pay back on time.' She added that more leases meant more chances of winning rewards in this scheme. A cross section of the customers present at the recent presentation expressed the view that the MBSL was unique in establishing such a tradition to reward customers. They were confident that the popularity of this scheme would have its desired effect in inducing a growing number of customers to pay their lease rentals by the due date. |
