Lankan accountants get global touch The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week in Colombo, aimed at providing an opportunity for Lankan accountancy professionals to gain access to the latest global trends in the field of accountancy. This agreement which was signed by the head of the Sri Lanka Institute of Chartered Accountants, Asite Talwatte and President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, David J. Illingworth would initially focus on providing knowledge, experience, technical and expert assistance in the areas of corporate finance and auditing to Lankan professionals who need to learn and keep abreast of the latest developments in the accountancy field. The MoU was signed at the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs in the presence of Minister Ravi Karunanayake, himself an accountant. The ICASL comes under the purview of the Ministry. Illingworth explained their plans here to the Minister and spoke in length about the current developments in the field of accountancy. In reply, Minister Karunanayake thanked Illingworth for coming forward to help our accountancy professionals and added that the MoU is a win-win scheme for both parties. Talwatte said the MoU would enable the institute's 2700 strong membership to access many facilities from the English Institute once they become members of the Corporate Finance and Audit faculties of the English Institute. They would then be able to access the services provided by the English Institute website, participate in discussion groups, access books and journals published by the Institute and meet worldwide experts on the subject. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales is one of the largest and most respected accountancy institutes in the world with a membership of around 125000. Many accountancy bodies worldwide have modelled their national institutes in line with the English institute. |
