Shawlands Tea Factory Lunugala certified for ISO 9001:2000 Shawlands Estate and Tea Factory managed by Hapugastanna Plantations Limited, operate under managing agents of James Finlay Plantation Holdings (Pvt) Limited has achieved the ISO 9001-2000 standard. The unique natural feature of this plantation is that it is situated on the slopes of the Eastern hills of the island and gets a major share of the rains from the north-east monsoon. When the country is experiencing the south-west monsoon, the dry winds blow over to the east creating stress condition on tea bushes. As a consequence of the stressful conditions of the environment., the "quality" compounds of tea leaves enhance and these compounds are scientifically preserved during manufacture to give and maintain flavour of the tea. Further the winds of high velocity with the rays of the sun direct from the east coast accompanied with clear nights contribute for the formation of this special organoleptic characteristics which Shawlands can be proud of for producing very special quality tea in Sri Lanka. Shawlands Estate is in the Passara Plantation district of the Uva region and the elevation varies from 792 to 1173 meters above mean sea level. The estate comprises a total area of approximately 515 hectares. The Shawlands Tea Factory The capacity of the tea factory is 1200 kg. green leaf per day and annual production is 600000 kilo grams of made tea. 5 S system is introduced for the entire process to enhance quality and sustainability. |
