Protest by Tamil Nadu fishermen

Tamil Nadu fishermen have geared up for a mass protest against problems they face in the Sri Lankan waters, reports from Chennai said. A large-scale protest will be staged by the Tamil Nadu fishermen on January 16, with street protests throughout the important cities in Tamil Nadu.

According to reports the fishing community in Tamil Nadu have claimed that they are being constantly threatened by both the Sri Lanka Navy and the LTTE and have alleged that several of them have been taken into custody with their fishing crafts when they drifted into Sri Lankan waters.

Reports also said that hundreds of fishermen from Rameswwaram were planning to enter Sri Lankan waters in their fishing crafts to show their protests.
