Convocation for Marketing students

The annual convocation of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) was held recently at the BMICH. Professor T. Wijeratne, Vice Chancellor, Rajarata University and Board of Study Member, SLIM was the chief guest.

At the convocation, students who completed formal marketing education programmes received their diplomas and statuses. This included 47 diploma holders who completed the Sri Lanka Diploma in Marketing and 22 professionals who received their Certified Professional Marketer (Asia Pacific) status. The latter is conferred by the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation, which constitute of member associations in the Asia Pacific region including Singapore, Japan, Philippines, Korea, Australia and nearly 20 other countries. SLIM founded in 1970 and incorporated by a Parliamentary Act No. 41 of 1980, is said to be the largest national body of marketers in Sri Lanka.

It has been in the forefront of providing marketing education in the country and over the years, has produced over 1000 marketing professionals. The SLIM Business School conducts a variety of academic and practical courses and coaching programmes to suit different individual and organisational needs. Among other courses, SLIM conducts the Preliminary Certificate in Marketing as an introduction to marketing especially for school leavers and newcomers to the marketing field and the Diploma in Marketing, a comprehensive three-staged programme covering 12 important areas of marketing. The successful completion of this diploma enables a student to pursue postgraduate studies including MBA in recognised local and overseas universities.

The SLIM Business School is also an accredited tuition centre for Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) examinations and Certified Professional Marketer (Asia Pacific) qualifying examinations. It has produced many Sri Lankan prize-winners at CIM UK examinations.

As part of its objectives, SLIM also recognises excellence in marketing through its national level programmes such as SLIM Awards for Advertising, Brand Excellence and NASCO (National Sales Congress) for selling.
