A crusader in his vision to give a Sri Lankan identity to the sitar, and has to date succeeded with honours, Pradeep Ratnayake will present a concert to celebrate the 54th anniversary of India's Republic Day. The concert will be held at the Bishop's College Auditorium on Friday January 23, 7 pm in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Centre. It will be open to all by invitation. The concert on Friday will be Pradeep Ratnayake's first public performance after completing his Masters degree in Music at the Visvabharti University, Santiniketan. Acknowledged for his creative Pradeepanjalee series of concerts, Friday's concert will feature traditional Hindustani ragas with pakhawaj and tabla interaction, a Sri Lankan sitar composition which Pradeep has expertly arranged for voice, Sri Lankan and Indian percussion. Not to be left out will be his renowned fusion explorations from sitar and other western music instruments. Pradeep Ratnayake will be accompanied by Piyadara Shilpadipathi, Ravibandu, Chandral Amarakoon, Kumara and Rutnam Ratnadurai. |
