Bird's Corner By Bird :

The Pepperpots

"When you feel

Good about yourself when things are rolling

Why don't you come and dance along

With Mrs. Pepperpot..."

Remember this dear old lady dressed in pink with a white apron tied around her waist, called by the name of "Spoon". Then she suddenly shrinks to the size of a pea and gets into all sorts of scrapes.

Well the real life Mrs.Pepperpot in Bird's life although looking very much like the cartoon character, does not shrink and woe be to those around her when she gets into those rare scrapes. She has a temper which boils up puffs of steam when ignited. Screech, screech, screech she huffs on and then cools off like water putting out a fire once having her say. She is Bird's dear old Grandmother, on her father's side.

Bird comes from a family of Pepperpots, who share the Pepperpot characteristics of hofty pofty tempers, punctuality, neatness and utmost cleanliness. There's little Miss Peppperpot-Bird's very own Sissy-Chir, Grumpy Mr.Pepperpot-Boo Boo-Bird's Dad and Grandmother Pepperpot-Boo Boo's Mom whom Bird affectionately calls "Wapams".

Bossy Miss Pepperpot-Sissy has her Grandmother's flare of a temper together with a punctuality obsession which expects those around her (in other words Bird) to be on the dot too.

Boo Boo, Mr.Pepperpot, though missing out on the Pepperpot Temper (which has been replaced by a Boo Boo Grumpiness) is another Pepperpot Punctuality and Neat freak.

This Sunday's dedicated however to the veteran Pepperpot of them all-Grandmother Pepperpot-Wapams. With an "Early to bed, early to rise, keeps you healthy, wealthy and wise" motto, going to bed at 10.00 pm she's up at early dawn. The Morning's prayers done she has her Morning cup of tea (mixed with vanilla flavoured sustogen) followed by giving her Morning's Instructions to the Cook cum Maid cum Housekeeper about the days chores to be done.

The late morning (after 9.00 am) is spent in true Pepperpot style, at crochet, mending torn pieces of clothes and gossiping over the phone to Pepperpot's four sisters or her most Unpepperpotish son from abroad (England). As the sun reaches its zenith in the sky it is lunch time followed by an hour's afternoon nap on the divan.

Pepperpot's evening is begun with a mug of hot Milo, followed by the Evening's Prayers. Next is Book Reading Time in which Wapams indulges in books lent to her by Bird. At around 6.30 pm she is visited by her youngest son and his family, and the evening's spent either chatting inside while watching Scooby Doo, or outside in the porch, in which Wapams gets a breather of fresh air as well as enjoying seeing the antics of her youngest grandchildren.

The day is concluded in a somewhat Unpepperpotish fashion. Dinner followed by "Bold and the Beautiful". Prayers and to bed and Pepperpot's Day is done.

The week has special days for Mrs.Pepperpot. Tuesday is Zavia day. Thursday is CC Making day. CC is short for Cocoa Custard, a special Bird Family Pudding made to an age old recipe, of which only Grandmother Pepperpot's turns out eatable. (Not wattalapamed-too thick, not marshy-too watery, not anaemic-not enough cocoa and not diabetic-with excessive sugar). It is perfectly Pepperpotish. The morning's CC made it is put in the refrigerator to cool for Friday Lunch's Pudding (which is gone within seconds as everyone in Pepperpot's Family races to finish it).

Saturday, the first day of the weekend, and the week's supplies of groceries and other items are over. It is Pepperpot's Shopping Day. At 8.00 am she is whisked off by her youngest son and taken to the market for her week's shopping spree. Rice, eggs, butter, sugar, vegetables and meat bought it is back to the house where everything is Pepperpotishly arranged. The rest of the morning is passed with a visit from Chir-Miss Pepperpot, and the two have a Pepperpoty time together, one doing crochet and the other at origami.

The most important time however is Monday morning, which is a Pepperpot-Bird Morning, in which Wapams gets the privilege of having some humorous and serious Bird Talk as well as the exchange of a new set of Bird Books from the Bird Library.

Today is Sunday and tomorrow will be another Bird-Pepperpot Monday Morn.

So from Bird, Miss, Mr and Mrs Pepperpot it is bye bye, for now.

"She's always there with her needle When things need sewing

So come and give those stitches

To be done by Pepperpot".

Have a Pepperpoty Weekend!

PS-And a Happy Birthday to those turning nineteen!
